With the purpose of recognizing the cinematographic works made by indigenous people, the Alok Institute has sponsored I Indigenous Film and Culture Festival (idealized by filmmaker Takumã Kaikuro and produced by A Terrestre Production Company), in Brasília from December 2nd to 11th, 2022. It was also promoted by the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of the Federal District.
Before the event in Brasília, the Festival promoted screenings of the films in Xingu (MT).
Ancestral Lens Award
The Ancestral Lens Award was presented by Alok Institute with the categories: Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Screenplay. Besides a trophy, each winner was awarded with R$ 5.000,00.
To honor all entries, trophies were given to 7 other participants of the Competitive Screening (in addition to R$ 1.500,00 for each one) and to 20 participants of the Parallel Screening.
Fecci’s organization gave the Best Film award to “Our Spirits Keep on Coming”. The popular jury chose “Amary Otomo Ogopitsa: the rescue of the Amary memory” as Best Film.
The trophy that all 30 filmmakers received is a wooden sculpture made by the artist Poli Solomé, inspired by the art of Aislan Pankararu (the Festival’s logo) and dyed with urucum or jenipapo.
